On the square in front of the town hall, you can admire the concrete artwork with water feature by Maltese artist Norbert Francis Attard. This special creation with its special shapes is based on the Fibonacci sequence.

What is Fibonacci?
The Fibonacci sequence is a series that is often found in nature, for example in the growth of plants and flowers, the reproductive behaviour of animals and the shape of shells. The art work symbolises the perfect form, the infinity of nature and the greatness of the sea.
Did you knew that:
- Fibonacci was the nickname of Leonardo of Pisa?
He was a famous Italian mathematician from the 12th - 13th century. In 1202, he wrote the book Liber Abaci (Book of the Abacus) in which he introduced the numeral system to Europe.
- the Fibonnaci sequence is a mathematical sequence? And one of the most famous number series in mathematics? The Fibonacci sequence starts with the numbers 0 and 1 and each subsequent number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. The series is infinitely long.
- there is also a Fibonacci spiral?
If you would represent the Fibonacci sequence as squares, then the side of a square must be equal to the sum of the sides of the 2 previous squares. When you connect these squares with one line, you get the Fibonacci spiral which is infinitely long.
