At the end of the concrete walking embankment heading towards France, you will find an architectural masterpiece that offers visitors a magnificent view of the sea and dunes: the Westerpunt!
The Westerpunt is a geometric, low-rise staircase that takes you from the walking embankment up into the air, until you float over the beach, before taking you further down to the lower beach or embankment. It symbolically connects the sea to the dunes, nature to the coast, residents to each other.
Its unique location next to the dunes and the Westhoek Reserve makes it an incredibly appealing attraction. Experience breathtaking 360-degree views and explore the beautiful landscape.
- End of the concrete walking embankment heading towards France, access via the Robert Demuyserepad, Dynastielaan 20.
- Open as of 3 May 2024
Tip: visit the Westerpunt at high tide, when the entrance on the beach is flooded by seawater.
The structure
The structure is six metres high and stands autonomously from the concrete walking embankment. It was built from concrete, a robust material that fits in nicely with the beach and dunes in terms of colour and texture, and is able to withstand the aggressive maritime climate.
