Villa My Corner was built in 1937 for a French family. In this home, local architect Louis Legein perfectly combined the principles of Art Deco and Modernism, and in particular the ocean-liner design.

Exterior
The flat roof, the metal railings and the horizontal window frames refer to modernism. However, we cannot say the house is strictly modern as the design is too decorative for that. After all, the alternating play of recessed and protruding, straight and curved volumes leads to a playful and dynamic asymmetry in the facade. The semicircular bay window seems to refer to a lighthouse, a safe haven. The use of different colours and materials also provides the necessary playfulness. The street fence was built in the same style as the house. The garage is also characteristic of this period. The viewer's experience is completely different depending on the direction from which they approach the house.
Interior
The interior of this characteristic building was recently renovated into a modern holiday home with maximum retention of the authentic layout and materials, such as the woodwork and decorative tiles in the kitchen. According to Mario Baeck, Doctor of Arts at Ghent University, these are undoubtedly decorative tiles from the Hemiksem ceramics factories from the 1950s and early 1960s. It is an excellently designed series, very typical of the international style of the fifties or the 'mid-century' style, and proof of the adaptations to the modern comfort of the 1950-60s that the villa underwent. For the current owner, the home is a combination of the charm of the past with the comfort of the present. Villa My Corner was adapted to the needs of our time, without losing its soul.
