On the occasion of the golden jubilee of her parents Aloïs and Zenobie and 50 years of the Panne Centre Festival Committee, daughter Gusta was born in 2011.
Who is Gusta?
The giantess is the personification of Guta Krokke, a fishmonger of Polish origin whose real name is Gusta Pollefyt. She was the landlady of 'Het Visscherswelzijn' and with a pushcart, she went through the streets of De Panne to sell fish. Gusta liked to drink beer, and in the evening she was often in a state which in De Panne was called 'krikke' (drunk), hence the name. The giantess was based on this person, to set her parents Aloïs and Zenobie right as they were originally fishermen and not pirates. The giantess is 2.65 m tall and carries a basket with fish on her arm. A few years ago, Gusta married Omer Snoek from Alveringem.
