Not only is De Panne the point where our country begins; this welcoming municipality is also where your journey begins. After all, there are numerous other attractions and appealing cities in the vicinity. Neighbouring France, still the most popular holiday destination for Belgians, is virtually in our backyard.
How about Veurne? A small but charming city just a stone's throw from the coast, with a rich historical heritage and lively centre. Be delighted by the varied offering. Fancy a challenge? Discover the pristine natural surroundings of De Moeren by bicycle, not to mention the ever-present headwind there.
Admire the spirited tradition of the shrimp fishermen in Koksijde-Oostduinkerke, as well as Hoge Blekker, the highest dune on the coast of Flanders, on horseback. "How do you dune?" Art and archeology enthusiasts can also get their fill in Koksijde-Oostduinkerke.
Explore Nieuwpoort from the water. If a mere bath makes you seasick, remain ashore, from where you can still experience the unique attraction of this fishing community. The medieval city centre and authentic fishing harbour are well worth a visit. You can find stylish boutiques and fine delicacies in the shopping streets.
There is also plenty to see and do south of De Panne in France. A short trip that makes you feel a million miles from home. Travel back in time to 1940 in Bray-Dunes, just across the border. That's when hundreds of thousands of English and French soldiers were rescued on the beach here in Operation Dynamo.
