De Panne is the perfect location for a holiday with your horse. Get in the saddle and go on a guided walk through the dunes, forest and the beach!
At riding school De Drie Vijvers, you can rent a chalet, park your van or truck for a small fee, and stable your own horse.
Our horses are eagerly tramping into the dunes, on the left we see the border with France, on the right the Westhoek Reserve (340 hectares). At the first glimpse of the beach, our noble four-legged friends have already been able to trot along and the first freshness has worn off.
Mighty! That is how we like to describe the feeling when we see the beach. The horses smell the fresh sea air and get used to the vast openness. Seeing the sea between your horse's ears, that's the best!
The wind in the mane, the sea breeze on your face, a splash of wet sand ... a controlled gallop on the beach, it couldn't be more blissful. Watch out for the 'swimmers', the streams of returning water; some horses will happily jump over these, others prefer to walk through them.
The calm stretch of beach between the blokart club and the border is the perfect location for horse riding. By the way, did you know that wading through seawater is healthy for your horse’s hooves and legs?
We then return via the paths through the beautiful Calmeynbos. This dune forest measures no less than 66 hectares and is home to a diverse array of animals and plants. We let the horses rest here, whilst they enjoy the shade and the first rustling leaves. Meadows, beach and forest in one ride, it doesn’t get better than that! This is De Panne in all its glory!
Before taking off, check the tides, and avoid galloping in the water. It looks nice, but horses cannot see the small wells under the water. During the summer season, certain areas are prohibited, so pay close attention to the information signs posted at each beach entrance.
