Street performances, music and immersive experiences are at the heart of this curious little free state. This is no ordinary festival, but a wonderfully offbeat celebration infused with true West Flanders spirit.
Visitors are invited to discover this playful micro-society, where respect for nature and the provincial domain takes centre stage.

At Vrijstaat West, there are no screens, no rush and no noise.
Instead, you’ll find connection, slow moments, humour, gentleness and pure wonder.
And while there are no taxes in this free state, one exception applies: the laughter tax — charged whenever someone looks a little too serious.
