01. Adinkerke train station

spoorwegstation Adinkerke

Stationsstraat, Adinkerke

Once positional warfare had begun, only two railway lines were available in unoccupied Belgium: the line Poperinge - Hazebroek (F) and the line Veurne - Dunkirk (F) - Calais (F). These railway lines became of vital importance for the logistical provisioning of the troops and the population and for transporting the wounded.

provisioning

Because Veurne train station came under enemy fire after 15 October 1914, Adinkerke train station became the hub for the of the troops.
